NWO Junior Receives Scholarship

Congratulations to Travis Whipple for being selected as a recipient of the 2005 Tim & Tom Gullikson USTA/Midwest Section Scholarship.

Travis is from Fostoria, Ohio, and attends Hopewell Louden High School.  He is the only member on his tennis team, and has advanced to sectionals the past three years.  He primarily competes in district and sectional tournaments.

Off the court, Whipple is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council, and received the National Machinery Award.  His extracurricular activities also include golf, soccer, being a member of the Family Career and Community Leaders of America as well as Teens for Life.

Whipple plans to attend the University of Findlay in the fall, where he will continue playing tennis.  He has already enrolled in post-secondary classes at the university while completing his senior year in high school.

The Midwest Youth Tennis & Education Foundation established this scholarship in 1998 to recognize Tim and Tom Gullikson, and to reward young players with funding to advance their education and tennis interests.  Each year, a $2,500 Tim & Tom Gullikson USTA/Midwest Section Scholarship is presented to one female and one male junior tennis player from the USTA/Midwest Section.

As the charitable and philanthropic entity of the USTA/Midwest Section, the mission of the Midwest Youth Tennis & Education Foundation is: "To develop the life skills of youth through tennis and education."
